About Fake Farmers

Fake Farmers started with a comment that was meant to hurt.

When our seven-year-old son came home from school upset after being told his family was "just a bunch of fake farmers," we had a choice. We could be offended by it, or we could own it.

So we did.

The truth is that while the farmland we farm today has been in our family for generations, farming itself was completely new to us when we started. We didn't grow up knowing how to raise livestock, rotate pastures, bale hay, or fix equipment. We learned the same way many first-generation farmers and homesteaders do—through trial and error, YouTube videos, helpful neighbors, expensive mistakes, and a whole lot of determination.

Over the years we've built Lazy Knoll Farm, our family farm in Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, where we raise Scottish Highland cattle, sheep, poultry, and plenty of stories worth telling. Along the way we've experienced our fair share of failures—from hay bales that fell apart to equipment breakdowns and even a golf cart that somehow managed to catch on fire in the middle of a pasture.

Instead of hiding those moments, we decided to celebrate them.

Fake Farmers isn't about pretending to be something you're not. It's about recognizing that nobody starts as an expert. It's for the people who jump in anyway. The people who learn as they go. The people who have failed spectacularly, laughed about it later, and kept showing up.

What started as an insult became a badge of honor.

Today, Fake Farmers is a clothing and lifestyle brand inspired by the real experiences, mishaps, victories, and lessons we've collected while building our farm. Every design tells a story, celebrates a mistake, or captures a moment that reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously.

Whether you're a first-generation farmer, homesteader, gardener, backyard chicken keeper, rancher, or just someone figuring things out as you go, you're in good company here.

After all, everyone starts somewhere.
